Webb10 sep. 2015 · I found a sheared FS93C SS bolt that was holding a mild steel blade onto the bronze rudder shaft of a 30′ sailboat. I have found in the past that 18-8 bolts are more prone to thread galling and stripping than carbon steel bolts or 316SS, and wonder if that might indicate a lower shear strength, tho’ these may have been cheap imported bolts.
